“This thing is awesome! This is my third tractor wood chipper over the years, and this will be my last. It just works as it does in the videos. All wood chippers get clogged, but I have not gotten this one clogged yet. Because of the air flow, it will be hard to clog this one with wet leaves or small limbs. Yes! I put an 8" log through it on a 55hp tractor. It went through without a single hiccup.”
“The DH8 works well with my Kioti CK4020, and the PTO horsepower is only 31 HP. The tractor does not bog down with normal chipping of 1-4" material, and anything larger than that counts as firewood for my maple syrup evaporator. I had to chop off about a third of the included PTO shaft, but it does fit.
Positives: Everything is heavily built, beyond what I expected at this price point. The 29" flywheel is a huge benefit, more than any other chipper I was considering. It's very easy to use. Just chuck in whatever branch you want to chip and the machine draws it in without complaint. The machine is quieter than I would have expected, and vibration on mine is minimal. It's a well balanced, well engineered piece of equipment.
Complaints: the author of the assembly instructions took some poetic license, assuming a certain level of critical thinking and creative problem solving on the part of the owner. I had to scrounge around my hardware supply for hex screws to mount the plastic shield, since the included screws were too short. I was surprised to find threaded holes for mounting the output chute when the instructions specifically stated to use lock nuts, of which there were none. Installation of the safety lever requires un-installing some of the bolts that you just put in to build the hopper, and replacing them with longer bolts, which is unclear in the instructions. The little lever clamps at the bottom of the feed hopper did not work at all, but the feed hopper is weighty (~50 lbs), and gravity is reliable enough to keep it in place.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase!”
“It's been nearly a month since my first post regarding this product, I've chipped over 37 cubic yards of wood for my garden pathways. This included dead fall trees 6 "/ 15cm to approx. 8 "/ 20.32 cm in diameter that were dried to grey colour in forest, of 15' / 4.5m to 20' / 6.1m lengths. I controlled the intake of these trees and limbs with the Hydraulic F/N/R function, at their thickest points so as not to stall tractor, and it worked flawlessly. I've a few more days of work to do and give a final opinion. So far I'm completely satisfied with the capability of the DH8, It's a necessary tool providing needed wood chip's for composting, and wood chip ground cover for property and tree maintenance.”
“Product assembly is minimal though assembly instructions, could use more detail for those less mechanically inclined.
I'm running this Chipper with a John Deere 2038R @540 rear PTO. Rating HP: 37.8 PS (27.8 kW; 37.3 HP) at 2,500 rpm, Torque: 101.4 N·m (10.3 kg·m, 74.7 ft·lb) Hooked to rear PTO using a JD Quick hitch system, and front end loader on tractor. This machine worked flawlessly on 4" limbs whole with all branches, pulled in without problem at a inflow setting of 2. without drawing down RPM of tractor. This was plenty fast making short work of what would have taken an hour or more, with a 3" gas powered champion wood chipper that i've been using. I chipped up a moderately large pile of apple tree limbs, and large pear tree limbs that broke off a tree earlier this month. It took about 40 min start to finish. I've 3.5 acres and more wood to chip than the 3" chipper could handle. The ease of use with F/N/R of wood flow control, the Chain saw holder, fully adjustable wood chip chute, It's all a game changer for me on our property. I need the wood chips for my gardens and I need to clear the brush, in a timely safe manner. Looking forward to the coming weeks of use. Will give another review after a week of solid chipping.”
