OS23 10hp (306cc) Briggs & Stratton (recoil start) Engine Reviews

4.4 Rating 14 Reviews
Being in the logging industry all my life I have always had an eye out to make something unique out of the chunks and pieces that get shoved into the debris pile. My last load out of the bushes was a load of fire kill that would have been heaped into a burn pile. It was tough on blades and lots of checking to cut around but I got my basement ceiling done in 1/2” by 12” which I put through my Delta planner. Also built a portable calf shelter and in time hope to do a cabin yet in the future. Dealing with Frontier has been great. I really have no complaints. Their website has lots of info for those who take their time to do the research. If I would have chosen this over a double-cut circular sawmill 22 years ago my surgeon dr wouldn’t have had to select a vein out of my leg to replace an accidentally sawed artery in my left forearm . Happy Frontier cutter now.

Wish it had electric start, and a way to turn logs. Otherwise a very nice mill.

This is my first experience with a mill. It is a good starting point with a steep learning curve. The manual is not intuitive for assembly or adjustment but with trial and error as well as a few YouTube videos you will get it going. Spare parts are expensive through Frontier but aftermarket belts are available. Throttle adjustment to get maximum rpm is important as well is belt tension. Next on the list is blade tracking and guide adjustments. Poor design and hardware make the blade lube system nearly useless. The inconvenient location of the recoil start makes starting difficult. For the price, it is a fair deal but there are better mills on the market

Great build, can’t go wrong with the engine, recommend, I got the track expansion too, cutting 16’ logs !

Flawless! The 10hp keeps it from bogging. I've cut 90% white oak. The rest assorted other oaks & some hickory. I've maxed out diameter & length. I may need to get a bigger saw.

Not worth the money. Bought the upgrade to 10 hp. Won't cut 6 inch pine without bogging down. I waited before I gave my review to give them a chance to make this right. Customer support just kept asking questions, never answering mine. Just kept asking me questions without giving me any answers. The water tank got broken (my fault) can't find any replacement on line. Emailed them, once again they asked me questions, and never responded. Stay away from this company.

It has an easy start pull cord. Almost no effort in starting it. The instructions on putting it together was easier than expected. All of the parts function easily. Absolutely the best starter mill for anyone looking to get into milling their own lumber.
