“My wife and I previously had a Skycamp Mini 2.0 on a Tacoma. We got rid of the Tacoma about a year ago. While we were debating whether or not to put the Mini on our Xterra, we moved into a new place with a shorter garage. The Mini would no longer fit on the vehicle if we wanted to park in the garage. So when spring came and we were getting ready for summer, we really wanted a rooftop tent but didn't want to have to deal with the limited outdoor parking at our complex. As soon as I discovered the BDV Duo is just 7" tall and should fit in our garage while mounted, we sold our Mini and bought it.
The BDV is incredibly quick and easy to set up. Quicker and easier than the mini since it just pops up with no folding. The size is perfect for my wife and I. The mattress is more comfortable than the Mini as I believe it's a little thicker, but it feels softer too. Slept in it a total of 3 nights so far, but each time it seemed like enough padding/support for a good nights sleep. As somebody who has chronic back issues, I can say I actually felt great and in no pain when I woke up in the morning. Also, the canvas actually blocks light! It's pitch black inside when all zipped up and it makes it a little too easy to sleep in.
Another big plus to the BDV Duo is the shape and it being flat on top. Both times we went camping we brought paddleboards and we just through them on the top. Once we have a taller garage someday, I'd like to permanently put some more accessories up there. But for now, we barely clear our garage so it's just the boards when we need them.
My only complaint is that it can feel a little cramped near the pivot point of the tent. That was expected of course. So while the Mini felt a little more roomier because of the way it opened, I prefer the BDV Duo in terms of comfiness and quickness to set up/pack up.
Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and the new price makes it a fantastic deal! Looking forward to keeping this one for a while and using it to explore this beautiful country as much as possible”
“Decent product. I'm not sure of the quality. The FRP cracked in cold mountain weather while sleeping in it in Oregon for the first time, I heard a loud audible cracking sound and invested to find a split corner.
Overall, it is a decent tent. I've slept in it plenty at this point. Comfortable. Quality is questionable as the shell has a crack that I must repair.”
“I love this tent. The setup time is literally seconds! It fits two people perfectly and the views are breathtaking! Super comfortable too!!!! & super low profile. What’s not to love?”
