“I definitely think that this class improved my writing ability. I think it helped me to look more inquisitively and in a more structured manner at what I was writing. This class did make me realize that some of the writing/editing techniques that I was using naturally or because I learned it at some point in the past could actually be tied to a specific rule and applied in a more systematic manner, which I believe helped my edits and writing become more consistent. I would highly recommend this class for colleagues with technical or engineering knowledge and less/no writing background. All engineers could benefit from elevating their writing. (I spend much of my day editing engineers' writing, so I know this to be true.) Some of the modules could seem basic to a seasoned professional, but the assignments and comments from Hurley Write and Pam are always what brought it home to me and kicked it up a level; they were arguably the best part of the course. I believe this class could be used to ensure a baseline of knowledge and taught to whole cohorts or groups. For example, every two weeks you do an online class and a writing assignment. Those writing assignments you can make as hard or as easy as you want, which can make the class even more appealing to new employees, busy mid-career employees and even seasoned professionals.”

“This course has helped me improves my writing skills. I use it to critique some of the documents that I have written in the past and as a result I have updated several sentences and paragraphs in the old documents. More importantly this course is helping me with the new documents that I am writing. I recommend this course to anyone involved in writing engineering or technical documents.”

It's great you went to a college that offered a writing class that asked you to apply your critical thinking skills to writing and wasn't just grammar! Most colleges don't do that--you were fortunate. Thanks for attending the workshop!
