The cap will indeed need a little force to close and open, we specifically have them in this way to make sure your kitchen is not covered with Shake ;)
As it's Stainless Steel, the cold will indeed feel cold, and stay cold a while in that one, no tip for that except put something around it if it bothers you.

“The packaging says to hand-wash it to avoid damaging it, but I've been putting it into the dishwasher since I got it and there are no problems. Sometimes I hand-wash it and I found it very easy to do given the large size. I can see how this shaker will last for a long time.”
