The Ocean Jacket (Nelusetta ayraudi) is also known as Leatherjacket and Chinaman Leatherjacket. This beautiful fish ranges in colour from bright yellow to pale white and grey. The flesh is white with a moist and delicate texture and pleasant sea aroma.
REGION
Ocean Jacket is caught in the Southern Ocean around seagrass or the sand bottom using trap fishing vessels.
GROWING CONDITIONS
The Ocean Jacket is regularly audited and monitored by the South Australian Government (PIRSA) with quota for trap fishing which includes a limited number of boats permitted to fish the species in zoned areas.
SUSTAINABILITY
The fishery is underpinned by stringent catching and handling regulations with a strict catch quota policy, while a system of limited licenses, boats and pot numbers helps avoid over- fishing.
