Donalds Strainer - Galvanized Strap / Aluminum Cog Reviews

Read Kencove Farm Fence, Inc Reviews

When installing high tensile wire, achieving proper tension is crucial to the performance and effectiveness of your fence. Strainers, like the Donalds strainers, make tensioning wire easy.
This strainer features a spring-steel latch that catches each turn of the cog to ensure it remains safe and secure while increasing tension.
Donalds strainers are made with a square drive head on the side of the cog, making it possible to ratchet them with a variety of tools. You can use a crescent wrench, box wrench (9/16” open end or 5/8” box end / 14mm open end or 16mm box end), or strainer handle with a square cut-out slot in the handle (TFU and TFH) to add tension. The Universal Strainer Handle (TFU) will also fit over the cog and strap in the standard vertical position.
The galvanized strap along with the zinc cog makes for a long-lasting strainer that can handle years of weather and exposure to the elements.
All Donalds strainers have wider cogs with flat, non-beveled side walls. This allows them to hold more wire as well as wider material like 1” Ponyrail.
Donalds strainers are designed to be attached to high tensile wire via crimp sleeve. To install, simply slide a crimp sleeve onto the wire tail, loop the tail through the hole in the strainer strap, and join the wire back onto itself using the crimp sleeve.

Recently lost several hundred feet of barb wire fence due to flood here in Oklahoma, 15 inches of rain in one day. Ordered the wire tighteners and found they were great, quick, easy to use and provide for later tightening over and over. Compared to a tradional fence stretchers, these things are 1000% better. Also, quick shipping from Kencove. Will order here again...

I am new to fencing strainers; maybe this is just how they are, but they seem flimsy and cheap to me. The strainer body should be boxed so that the axel of the cog doesn't try to pull out when real strain is applied. Also, the aluminum cog is extremely soft and the frame digs into it. I wonder how long it will last. They do work and do then job, but barely it seems. I left a loop of extra wire when I attached them so that it wont be terribly hard to someday replace them. There will be extra wire to get this done.

Never pulled new fence so fast and equally tensioned. Pulled the lines, tensioned up and plenty time left to relax on the porch with a glass of wine. MARVELOUS!
