I discovered the Kiki Health brand last year, and already have several of their products, so was very keen to try this beetroot powder. They're an independent, British-based, ethical company, and this beetroot powder is sustainably sourced, certified 100% organic, pure and natural, with no preservatives, chemical additives or added sugar. I also like the packaging - a glass jar with a screw top metal lid, so fully recyclable. I love fresh beetroot, but it's not always available, and is also very messy to cook, so a powder form looked ideal for someone like me who likes to eat healthily but isn't keen on spending too much time in the kitchen. I've never thought of beetroot as being something to eat at breakfast time, but as the listing suggests adding the beetroot powder to porridge, I thought I would give it a go. On a cold January morning, I made myself a big bowl of buckwheat porridge (kasha) with sour cream and beetroot. The suggested amount of powder to use is one teaspoon, and this was just the right amount to turn the kasha a lovely shade of pink - and to make it taste delicious; the sour cream perfectly complemented the sweetness of the beetroot. I can't wait now to experiment with some other recipes. Out of interest, I weighed a teaspoon of the beetroot powder, and it was only 2.5g. By that reckoning, this 200g jar would provide 80 servings - so very good value too for a product of this quality.

I’m trying to eat lots of beetroot because it is incredibly healthy, especially as a source of betaine (or TMG) and folate (a B vitamin), both extra-important nutrients, so I hope this powder from Kiki Health will do me lots of good. It is pure unadulterated beetroot and supplied in a large (but not all that well-filled) well-sealed attractive glass jar.The flavour is sweet and earthy, just as you would expect, and very palatable. It is an intense dark pink/red colour so don’t be worried if it colours your urine pink like fresh beetroot does! I wonder what this would be like instead of nasty food colouring in a red velvet cake.I have tried many products from Kiki Health and always been very pleased with them. Their organic certification from the Soil Association has always checked out but this is an exception, an oversight I assume, please check this Kiki. The best before date is April 2027, more than two years hence.
