The box works great and is very convenient. The diatomite litter is the worst litter I have ever tried. It does nothing for odor control. Very loud when moved around and scratched. Tracks everywhere.

I've been using KPC for some time with the fine grain silica litter. When they emailed about the new diatomite litter it sounded awesome so I tried it. I'm sorry I did. It is beyond terrible. The litter boxes all stink like ammonia, so much so that I can hardly bear to go near them. I can't wait for my next shipment of silica so I can throw all these out and never use them again. I don't know how my poor cats can even get in them the smell is so bad. I might have to go to Petco and buy replacement litter if my next shipment isn't coming soon, the smell is that bad.

I have been a kittypooclub member for several years, and when I added new cats to the household I figured I’d give this product a try since it wasn’t available when I first signed up. I wanted to like it as much as the silica litter but man it really did not do well. First off it smells like mildew and dirt fresh out of the bag, and for whatever reason all of my cats decided that they would play in the diatomite litter and kick huge portions out of the box, which was frustrating. Also, it produced a TON of dust which coated everything, including my cats after each use and the litter genie sitting next to the box and really everything within a 10ft radius for the box itself. And then after the first use I realized that it does nothing to contain the smell of either urine or feces. Also about 3 days in it stopped absorbing the pee well unless I stood there and stirred it continuously for several minutes, which produces an insane amount of awful smelling dust…. The urine smell imitating out of the box caused me to toss it after about 10 days, while my silica boxes last closer to 25-30 days before it really starts to smell. And I will say the silica litter also does retain some urine smell, it dissipates so much more quickly, and the pee evaporates easily either on it’s own or after a stir or two.

Silica doesn’t leave tracks-diatomite does. I’m always sweeping the floors. Diatomite almost doesn’t emit odor (thus I like!)

If the portion of box, which allows the cat to step in, is removed, the litter tracks easily. Next box I will leave it on.
