“On January 1st, 2026, I had what I call an AHA moment, and that moment is what led me to the Master’s Academy for Christian Life Coaching.
When I came here, I honestly thought I was just coming to learn how to coach. I already felt like I was working in the industry that is part of my calling and purpose. The company I work for has given me the freedom to flow in my craft. I’m able to speak freely about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better place to work. They allow me to do what I do. I truly believe I’m only there because of Him.
My story begins with how I came into this world. My parents were pastors, and they had me later in life. The medical field encouraged them not to have me because I was considered a “change-of-life baby.” But the elders of the church prayed me in. They prayed for my safe delivery.
And interestingly enough, that same population — elders and seniors — is the population I have served most of my career. I’ve been given favor with them. I’ve been able to communicate with them and accomplish things that sometimes even my team members could not. For that reason, I always felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
So, when I joined the Master’s Academy, it really started from a simple moment. I had hosted a gathering at my home, and another life coach was there facilitating. I loved the way she flowed, and I remember thinking, maybe I should get some schooling just to perfect my craft.
I wasn’t thinking about changing careers. I wasn’t thinking about the financial side of coaching. I simply wanted to sharpen something that people had always told me I was good at — listening.
So, I did my research and came across the Master’s Academy. Everything I read said it was an incredible place to learn, so I enrolled that Monday. Just like that.
I remember Paul saying early on that many of us would come thinking we were ready to coach, but we would quickly learn that coaching is deeper than we think. One of the things I said when I joined was that I was a great listener. And very early in the process, I realized coaching was far more in-depth than I expected.
As I began having coaching sessions, something unexpected happened. Yes, I was learning to coach… but in those early sessions, I was also very much the client.
There were things lying dormant inside of me that the Holy Spirit needed to bring to the surface and heal so that I could become the coach I was meant to be.
I truly believe the saying: when the student shows up, the teacher appears. And that is exactly what happened to me.
At first I even thought, “Oh my goodness, I may need to take another round of this just for myself.” But the Holy Spirit began to heal me early in the process. As He healed me, I began to feel empowered. I realized that yes, I could be the coach.
I know many people pursue coaching because it can be financially lucrative. But I have to be honest about why I came. I came to perfect my craft. But what I discovered is that the Holy Spirit led me here to heal me… so I could be made whole for Kingdom work.
Since joining the Academy, yes — I gained my certification in coaching. But so much more has happened. I’ve built connections with incredible people. I never imagined I would come online and share some of the most intimate and vulnerable parts of my life with people I had never met before. But now I have sisters in Christ that I truly cherish.
I’ve also found a freedom in Christ that I had never experienced before. I’ve broken free from some church systems that I once felt shackled too. And I’ve stepped fully into my identity as a daughter. Not just my father’s daughter in the natural… but my Father’s daughter. I walk in boldness in the gifts God has given me.
My first love has always been writing. Years ago, I thought I was going to be the next Barbara Walters or Oprah Winfrey. I even went to school for it. But now I journal, I write, and I speak more freely than I ever have before. Sometimes I pause and think, Where did that come from? And the answer inside me is always the same — the Holy Spirit.
He has given me freedom in my voice, in my writing, and in how I express myself. I’ve also overcome the fear of what people think. The fear of people’s faces.
I am Sonia Vanessa.
And I walk proudly in who I am.
I’ve begun stepping out on faith that is bigger than a mustard seed. I hear the voice of God more clearly now, and I can differentiate His voice from all the outside noise.
I spend time with Him in quiet places. I long for Him. Sometimes when I close my eyes in prayer, I see my Father.
And I know I’m in the right place at the right time in my life.”
