Here is a touch of info on our Caramel, Caramel colors are safe for use in foods and beverages and have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the European Food Safety Authority, and Health Canada. Our Class 1 Caramel are not genotoxic or carcinogenic. The bad Caramel throws off a chemical called: chemical 4-methylimidazole, or 4-MeI, which is formed during the manufacturing process.
