Would be better if the two fed bars were replaced with something flat , aluminium comes to mind otherwise good buy.

I'm conflicted in writing this review in that the treadle appears of really good quality and fit for purpose. It was purchased primarily as a last ditch defence against grey squirrels but in that quest, it's hopeless. The squirrels gain access to the feeder via the inward opening flap. Having done so, then then get trapped as the flap only opens inwards, preventing their escape once they had their fill. I can't give a poor review for the product as it states it only prevents 'rodent and other birds' with no mention of the squirrel. In that aspect, it would be suitable. One other brand (Eton) is classed as vermin proof but again, states vermin the be rats/mice, specifically not squirrel. If you, like us, have a problem with the pesky squirrel then this feeder is not for you.

It’s taking my 2 girls a few days to get used to it but that just due to them being a little scared of it. Once they got the hang of it it was great.

Waiting for the hens to get use to it hoping it won’t take too long.

I like it, but found the bars too close to it for large birds. My large birds had a habit of putting only one foot on the bars while standing far away so it would not open and they tried to push it open with their beaks. Whenever they finally DID put enough weight on it they got scared by the sound it made on opening and took a step back again. Once I extended the treadle with a third bar it worked a treat.

I bought this feeder because the squirrels chewed my Eton Vermin-resistant treadle feeder until it broke. Good news the feeder is squirrel proof and i'm chuffed to bits. It's well made, good quality and surprisingly lightweight. The only negative is the treadle itself, I found that when it's rained the bars became slippy and the chickens were sliding off it as they couldn't grip, when that happened the opening for the food snapped shut on their heads scaring them. So I took the green treadle off the Eton one and cable tied it to the red treadle bars and hey presto the chickens can grip and I have very happy hens! I would recommend it but with this caveat.

It does exactly what it says on the tin. It takes a few days for the chickens to understand the system but then they're happy! It keeps the food dry and away from unwanted visitors.
