“The style, dimensions and quality feel of the watch are good. The rubber strap is rather stiff and uncomfortable, though. The NATO strap is a nice touch. It's far more comfortable but it effectively adds length to the lug to lug dimension making it not easy to fit under a long sleeve cuff. I went aftermarket and got a comfortable steel black PVD bracelet, so the straps are no longer an issue.
Frankly, I bought the watch because the tritium markers on my almost 20 year old Ball Watch Night Train were dimming. When new, the markers glowed brightly in a dim movie theater. But it's expensive to replace them with new, so I got an Atacama expecting to have similar brightness as when my Ball Watch was new. Instead, the markers are barely brighter than my now old Night Train.
Bottom line is that the Atacama is a nice watch for the money and looks good. Just don't expect the dial to shine brightly except in a really dark room or outside on a moonless night.”
“The watch is incredible (like all Luminox watches I own). Nice dial, a little rugged but also a little casual maybe with chinos and a button down. Visibility is sharp with the tritium in the dark. All in all a great watch. Would recommend to anyone looking for a field watch.”
“I love this watch very much so. It’s super lightweight, the tritium is gorgeous, and it looks clean. Many compliments so far. My one gripe is the rubber strap it comes with. Too small for my wrist. It makes me think this is a unisex watch, which it may be. If the rubber strap was bigger this would be 5 stars. I had to take the rubber off and use the nylon, which I do like a lot. I just wish I could have worn the rubber one. The nylon strap is far larger, though. Hopefully replacement straps are cheap/available because I can already see wear on it after a month or so.”
“I am enjoying this watch!! The standard band was too small for my wrist, and I had to change to the web band for fit, and comfort. I would recommend both Luminox and this watch. Very nice quality for the price point.”
“I've been wearing my Atacama 1970 every day for about five weeks. I'm subjecting it to hay dust, chicken feed dust, dirt, full sun, a little water as I clean out food bowls or fill water buckets. It gets vibrations from an electric sander and drills along with the subsequent sawdust. It hasn't fazed it in the least. I was a little concerned that the dial might be too bright and invite robbery, but it's very muted yet readable in the dark. My only contention is the actual design. It is a bit squarish and hangs when reaching into pockets.”
