“I purchased the new 2020 10-core 5K iMac and 64GB of ram was going to be $1000+ from Apple. I purchased it for half the cost from Macfixit and also left two slots open so I can go to 128GB later if I wish. Apple was going to fill all 4 slots with 16GB sticks so I'd have to waste that RAM if I needed to upgrade further.
Going 3rd party RAM (which Apple RAM is anyways) will save you hundreds! If not thousands!!”
