250GB OWC Mercury Electra 3G SSD Solid State Drive - 7mm Reviews

4.9 Rating 138 Reviews
Added this drive to my older 750Gb Scorpio Black and made my own Fusion Drive for my early 2008 17" 2.5Gz MBP. Flies like and eagle now. Boots in 30 secs. Best upgrade I ever made.

Installed this on a mid 2010 MBP last week for my wife. Works well. Nice and quiet and quick. Only issue I had was that with the drive coming unformatted I couldn't just install Mac OS X on it from disk. Got it sorted by buying an case to put the drive in, then hooking it up and formatting the drive from my Mac Pro. Once I did that I used a cloning tool to copy the contents of the old drive to this one.

After some email advice from the excellent people at Macfixit Australia Store the decision was made to install an SSD. The OWC Mercury Electra SSD has brought my MBP back to life and is super quite as well. The old thing had slowed beyond belief. Not anymore. Thanks Macfixit Australia you're the best.
