“I offered to attempt diagnosis of non functional MBP for family member. It held charge in battery, and I could get it to boot via USB stick, and screen worked but that was extent of function. I didn't know if SSD was corrupt / dead or potential fault in mount socket or motherboard but referred to my IT guru BIL for 2nd opinion. I decided to take the gamble and ordered a 500GB replacement for suspect original 256GB, along with Envoy Pro kit.
I took opportunity to clean innards and replace thermal paste to CPU / GPU as well while case opened.
1. I mounted old SSD in envoy case and attempted boot up without success.
2. Used Stick drive to boot OS worked but OLD SSD still unresponsive and no files accessible.
3. Installed new Aura Pro SSD in MBP socket and downloaded fresh OS from apple via internet.
4. Discard dead original OEM SSD as files unrecoverable.
5. Install updates to latest recommended O/S version .
Machine runs fine, double the original storage and faster than original.”

“I purchased this item on pre-order and received it about 10 days later as promised.
Replacing the drive in my Mac was straight forward using the instructions from OWC. I took the opportunity to clean out the fans and replace the heat-sink transfer paste on the CPU at the same time - my fans had been working overtime, now they are back to normal.
I did a clean install of Sierra OS onto the new drive using a bootable USB without any problems.
Converting the old drive into a portable USB stick was very quick and simple using the Envoy Pro Upgrade Kit provided.
This is a great product for anyone wanting a bigger/faster drive in their Mac Book Pro 2012-13”
