“I installed this kit into a 27" iMac. The intention was to replace the slow internal HDD with this blade SSD. I decided for thermal management reasons to leave the HDD in there and simply not use it as I have read about the fans running at full speed if some iMac's aren't happy with you changing the SATA drive that's installed from the factory. Everything was included to complete the job correctly, minus the install guide which is available from the OWC website or a great guide from iFixit. The install can take 30 minutes or more depending on your competency and if you clean out the accumulated dust inside too. When done, install a fresh copy of macOS with a pre-made installer USB, or boot off the old HDD and then use something like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your HDD to the SSD (if you have enough storage space). With suitable software configuration know-how, you could also use this kit to create a home made Fusion Drive in conjunction with your internal SATA HDD.
The tools and adhesive display strips for 21.5 and 27" are all there, and there's even the SSD screw that you need to fasten the SSD to the logic board. I wasn't expecting the screw to be included but was pleasantly surprised as there isn't one already on the logic board.
The SSD performs very well and this is a highly recommended upgrade to non SSD iMacs. While not as fast as a brand new iMac's SSD, you will notice the difference and give your computer a new lease of life!
BE WARNED that this job should be left to someone who has experience in computer or electronics repair. There are very delicate cables within and it is also possible that you can break the display when removing the adhesive if you're not careful. High voltage also exists within and touching the wrong place could lead to a nasty zap or electrocution for you and irreparable damage to your Mac.”
