“Has worked like a charm so far on a MacBook 2017 with the USB-A ports powering an iPhone and connecting via Apple USB-Ethernet. Does get very warm, which I suspect will shorten its operating life.”
“After a couple of failed USB-C dongles, this has got to be a well functioning version. I've tried this on a Macbook Pro, Dell XPS and the HDMI works well on both, nearly instantly and flawless for at least about 20 minutes.
These are situations where the data flows FROM the computer and I have yet to test if it can charge at the same time through the USBC though I am told that it does.
When I had a USB3 drive plugged in on the dongle, the MBP couldn’t recognise the drive until I unplugged the power supply from the computer. It could be I didn’t wait long enough but it’s possible that the data and power can’t flow to the computer at the same time. But once it picked up the USB3, it would power through a second USBC on the computer but not through the dongle.
It’s quite possible that others may have experienced something different or similar or even a better work around, but so far this is the most faultless USBC device I’ve tried. My experimenting isn’t over yet, but hopefully others can add to this blog their experience. Since I haven't tested this in every situation, I'm giving this a 4 star.”
