“Decided I'd like to have some fun with legos on my own project. Plus this is likely the closest I'll ever come to owning a Porsche! I worked on this for about a week for a couple hours a night after the kids went to bed. Yes, took that long. I also didn't have a space to lay out and organize all the parts - something that really would have made this go faster - I just dug what I needed out of a pile. But isn't finding the piece you need half the fun? Anyways, this model was a blast. Working "pistons" and differential. Working shocks and steering. The doors open and close and so too does the "trunk". It really looks cool, pictures do not do it justice. Very close to the real thing. I thought about stripping one of my RC cars to make this into one....then I remembered what happens when LEGOs "crash". Kept this to myself for a couple weeks then gave it to my son (5) - an adult can only play with LOGOs so long before the wife tells you to grow up. He's actually been being very gentle with this, racing it around his room and not breaking it. Says alot about how well this was made. Sure some will easily break off - it is only a LEGO model after all, though most of it is fairly solid. In the end, this was a nice fun build, and looks cool as heck.”
“This Porsche 911 was a pleasure to build. There are a lot of steps (close to 400, some of them require careful assembly. The build is never too repetitive and often use interesting techniques. The end results looks really nice.”
“This took us such a long time to complete this build, but the finished Porsche is amazing. The quality and details are great and the instructions are easy to follow.”
“This is a phenomenal kit. The mechanical detail Lego has chosen to employ here is incredible (though I suppose it should be expected considering it's from the Technic line. Here are some of my highlights.* The rear differential. This is my first big Technic set and though I knew Technic focuses on mechanisms AND as I had read the box I did have an idea as to what to expect. That said, as an engineer and a previous auto engineer, I was borderline giddy as I was putting together the differential. It is a perfectly working differential.* Double wishbone suspension and working steering rack. Includes springs in the shape of damper though no dampers. (But then again this is Lego and not a track RC car.)* Size. This thing is massive.* Sticker detail to sell the design that much more.* Meaty build . This is a serious project, not an hour long diversion. How long it will take you to build it depends on a few things, including how fast you work and the time you put into prep work though I would say 5 hours minimum. Prep work?* No numbered bags. Some here have complained that there are no numbered bags requiring you to open all bags and sort through the 1500 hundred pieces as you go. Yes, this is true. This project is as much puzzle and model as it is traditional Lego set. Spending time separating and sorting pieces just like a large jigsaw puzzle will pay dividends in the long run. But that is also the point. This isn't a hold-your-hand the entire way as so many (excellent) Lego sets do, this is part puzzle. Going into the project with that expectation will save you a lot of grief.* Working engine pistons in opposing 6 six cylinder engine.I supposed if I had a gripe it would be that there is only so close a car made of Technic pieces can get to looking like an actual Porsche. But that is such a small and minor thing compared the level of detail Lego puts into this kit and the hours of fun put into building an engineering marvel. Highly recommended.”
