Sails great, assembly was not too bad despite the lack of ANY directions. (there were generic directions that were not specific to this kit.) Biggest gripe is that the opening in the hull is too small to remove the battery pack from so that you can change the batteries. Had to cut away some of the hull to make it a little more forgiving. Very happy, and would buy again... but it would be nice if it was easier to change the batteries, and if it came with better directions.

Good quality boat, but no instructions. After the video on the web sight, I was able to rigg sails.all 8 batteries were dead. Battery holder in boat hard to get to. I had to cut a little off the hatch opening. Mast seems to be little too short and main sail will not fully

Quality product, assembly took time due to poor if non-existent assembly directions. Being a former sailor I figured it out. Transmitter would not acknowledge receiver servos but I found a u-tube on how to pair the system. The Rotary sail servo is ultimately useless as the thread pulls out and over-runs after a few uses. It will work only if you slowly jab the sail controls so they do not slip out of the drum. Finally had a friend install a different servo and custom make a toggle arm that wont override. It works fine after this installation which copies the Micro Magic system and also responds instantly without getting hung up. Bancroft needs to revise this system and discard the rotary drum which WILL hang up regardless of how tender you operate the controls. Heavy wind will keep the sail line taught and tensioned, but light wind will allow the rotary drum to override or double up. " not fun to loose control". After these modifications it is superb to sail. I installed waxed sail line to the battery case on each end to pull in and out and only used about 1/2 inch velcro on battery case so it can be locked in midship for stable ballast but easily removed to change out the batteries. So far I have used regular duracell AA batteries good for at least 6 hours of use inside the boat. I will eventually solder in a battery connector to be able to charge rechargeable batteries while in the boat without removal. Some folks have changed to AAA but the AA are heavier and better ballast and capacity. Rechargeables are only 1.25 volts so the response capability will diminish versus a fresh AA at 1.56-1.6 volts. Dont get discouraged it will just take you more time to figure it out. Surprised Bancroft has not figured this out yet and done their own QC checks.

Sails nicely… ! I didn’t want an rc sailboat to race, just to relax. The Sportsail was easy to setup, as long as you watch the motion rc video, there are no instructions in the box. I am new to RC, and would recommend the Sportsail to anyone looking to dip their toes in the pond.

I've never tried an R/C sailboat before, been flying aircraft of most types for 30 years and wanted to give it a go.What a blast! Very easy to set up for the most part, and though it was all new to me and intimidating at first, once it was in the water and moving it all made sense. The only issue I had with setup was the lack of a manual, but that was made up for with a good assembly video.I still can't quite figure out how to get the jib boom to move freely without getting caught on the main mast when tacking, but I suspect that's a trial and error thing and will get resolved eventually. All in all, what a great boat - nice size, and just a pleasure to sail. Very relaxing.

Worth the money. Sails nicely even though the rigging is very unrealistic. No instructions are provided. I got very good phone support when I thought the keel would not fit. It does fit, it is just tight. The jib works but the rigging is weird.

Very pleased with how this operates. Light winds 7-8 mph and it cruises along nicely. Easy to maneuver and very relaxing. Now all is needed is a little customization to give it more color and individual identity.Ordered this from Motion RC and it arrived nicely packaged. It comes with a wooden stand that snaps together easily.Since it is RTR it comes with a transmitter and 8 batteries. 4 for the transmitter and 4 for the boat. The boat itself looks very nice and appears to be high quality materials. There are instructions but they are not really that helpful - at least for this model. The receiver is already in, everything is connected and all you should have to do is pop in the batteries, turn the transmitter on, turn the on/off switch to the power located inside the boat and be ready to go. (after rigging the sails of course)The odd part to figure out is getting the batteries in the boat. When you look inside there appears to be a place for two batteries because that is all you can access. At this point, I thought maybe it only takes two batteries but after putting them in, it was a no go.I checked the receiver connections by pulling it out (it is attached to the hull with Velcro) and everything seemed plugged in tightly. Finally I removed two screws and the rudder servo screw and was able to take the whole assembly out of the hull. At that point I could see where the problem was - there is a space for two more batteries underneath! The problem is you can't access that are to put them in without removing the complete assembly as I did. The battery pack does look like it may be Velcroed underneath, so maybe it is possible to pull it the battery pack out without removing anything else but there is nothing in the instructions to explain this, nor is it apparent from looking into the hull opening. Of course once I place the other two batteries in, everything worked fine. There is no binding process that you have to go through.Connecting the sails took some time but by looking at the photos on Motion RC's website you can figure out how everything is supposed to be connected. My suggestion to Motion RC is to create a manual specific to this boat and place it on the website. If I didn't have experience with RC aircraft assembly and related electronics, I might have given up thinking that there was something broken.I rated the assembly as difficult, but only because of the issues noted above. With instructions it would actually be fairly easy. Other than that it would get 5 out of 5 stars.
