“Probably waited over two years (it was probably more like three!) for this Bancroft Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer to be back in stock, so I jumped on it when it became available again. Haven’t put it in the water yet, but here’s what I have found in going over this destroyer. First, the detail is amazing. Even if you didn’t plan on running it in the water, it would be great as a display model right out of the box. You have to be very careful in handling this ship because the parts are small and fragile. Keep the dog and kids away from it! The included H-60 helicopter is a bit toyish looking, so that’s coming off and will be replaced by a 1/44 scale plastic model (Dragon Models) that you can buy and build. Not a thing was broken when I got it out of the box, and it was shipped cross country to San Diego! At three and a half feet long, it’s a very nice size. Not too small and not too big. The fiberglass hull is a thing of beauty! No instructions came with it (nada, zippo, absolutely nothing!). The transmitter is also rather toyish, so I’m tossing it and will use a very good surface transmitter that I also already have and I’ll replace the receiver too with one I already have. While this destroyer is listed as ready to run, don’t even think of putting it in the water until you have put some ballast in it or she’ll roll right over. There is no ballast in the boat at all other than from the motors, electronics, and whatever battery you put in it. Again, do not put this boat in the water without getting some real weight in the bottom and doing controlled ballast float tests in the bathtub, kiddie pool, etc. Not having ballast in it right from the get-go is okay since that allows you to adjust ballast based on battery size and anything else you may put in it. But you need to be aware of the ballast situation and Bancroft really should alert you to that before the ship ever touches the water. Access to the esc, steering servo, rudder push rods, motors, receiver, is pretty good. There are two access points that allow for this and placement of a battery. There is no access to the rudders internally, so don’t mess them up or you’re going to play he** trying to fix them. It came with a 2800mAh 2S Lipo battery, along with a small battery charger. I think the 2800mAh is a bit small for this ship, so I ordered a 5000mAh 2S battery from MotionRC and that will help provide a lot of additional needed ballast and let me run it for a loooong time. Prop tubes have oilers on them, which is nice. If you need to remove the prop shafts, you’ll have to pull the motors out to pull the shafts forward since you can’t remove the rudders to pull the shafts aft. Props look scale, but are plastic and run on 3mm steel prop shafts. Already planning to get rid of the plastic props and hoping to find some nice polished brass ones from Raboesch (made in the Netherlands). The single esc is 120amps and set up for water cooling, but there is no water-cooling system included with the boat to do so. The 120amp esc seemed like overkill and probably not top of the line, so I’m going to remove it and put in two higher end 30amp marine esc’s (one for each motor) for smoother performance and response. Overall, a beautiful RC ship! Hope my review helps!”

“This ship is very detailed and accurate. It is also very functional in the water just like the real thing. I received the Uss Oscar Austin DDG 79 In very great condition. Just wished it came with the ballast to stabilize it.”
