“The product is very well made. The colours fit the US Navy at that time. I found out, that the colours of the SMS Emden, sold by Graupner are correct. The two bow gun in the hull are to low. The masts have the correct hight, so that I can transport it by car. It the spires were lowered like in the photos of the original in the Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal under the bridge, it would be perfect. I bought two models in the peace time colours. I am very happy with them. To transport it in a car and to run it everywere in Europe would a model of the SMS Babenberg or the SMS Hessen better.”

“The model looks great and is well finished although it lacks details that a static modeller would expect such as the spare portside anchor, boat mooring booms, sheer strake ladders, upper hull side ladders and prop protection spars.This is no more than I would expect as there is a trade off with RC models which put functionality over detail.An Panzerkreuzer aficionado, as I am, can always add such details.I was worried that such a model would be badly damaged in transit. The masts struck me as damage prone. Nevertheless I took the plunge.I was thrilled to receive the model in good condition notwithstanding international transport.The one problem I had was that the rudder was broken with the lower below the hinge point loose in the box.The rudder is very prone to damage, not helped by the proximity of the polystyrene packaging. Any bang on the box bottom at that point can knock the packaging against the rudder. The packaging under the rudder needs cutting down leaving the rudder with nothing around it for safe transport.I drilled both sections of the broken rudder and inserted pins for strength before gluing it back together and repainting.There is also little play in the rudder when it comes to steering which may mean a larger turning circle that desired. I've yet to sail the model. I'll address that issue if and when it arises.This was a must have model for me. Ships of this period look amazing and this one of the most famous with truly awesome history behind it.Overall a great model of a great ship.”
