Bancroft Cap San Diego 1/100 Scale 1600mm (63.0") German Merchant Cargo Ship - RTR Reviews

4.8 Rating 8 Reviews
For the Price, it's a great Model. A few minor Things need to be changed, but that's quite manageable given the Size. For Example, the original Ship has a four-blade Propeller, and the spare Propeller is mounted on top of the Deck. The Weight, with ballast, is fine. It's nothing like my self-built SS France in 1:100 Scale, which weighs 63 kg and is 316 cm long. Here are some YouTube video links with lots of details on how to optimize the Model. I have it pretty easy, the Cap San Diego is only a 2-hour Drive away from me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyjTf4lbyh8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdJwFmZC0e0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oCnb56OqIg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ew0pubv4RQ

My experience with all of the Bancroft RC Boats has been wonderful. They have excellent detail and the RC controls work extremely well. I have actually purchased the Bancroft boats for display because of their excellent detail. My interaction with MotionRC has been one of the best that I have experienced on the internet over the years. Quick to respond to questions, quick to ship, and first rate at resolving any issue. I thoroughly enjoy the videos of the product that I watch before placing any order. James is great! Thank you MotionRC!!

This is my 7th Bancroft Boat. Love them and the detail of each. However this boat requires tons of ballast and placed in the right location. And the rigging is definetly hard to place. Instructions do no justice.

The Model overall is packed very well and looks really nice! Some details, like the posotion lights made out of cutt off LEDs and one of the mast lights made the same way don`t fit in the picture! The rest is made very nice. The rest of the equipment, like the radio and the battery are bit like an alibi that a complete model is delivered. The piece of paper called manual is very poor. No word is lost about the ammount of extra weight that needs to be added, so some experience with models of that size is needed, to have an idea of haow nuch weight needs to be added! Ichanged the complete radio setup and put to me known quality products in, like a new receiver (HoTT), ESC and a new rudder servo. With my setup and added weight (I added 6,5kg) the ships swimms nice!

I’ve been looking at this for quite awhile. I’m glad I bought it. At first the rigging looks intimidating. Once you see how it goes, it’s pretty self explanatory. As per James in the video, I used 20lbs of ballast. I used 4, five pound soft scuba weights(found on Amazon). It’s too long for my bathtub. I bought a $30 10 foot inflatable kids pool that I used to float it. With the ballast it’s pretty heavy. I ordered a collapsable wagon that I’ll use to help transport it. It was packaged very well, when it arrived at my house, the delivery guy left the box on its side. No damage whatsoever.

Ordered the model Thursday afternoon, and it arrived at my door on Monday. Can't say enough good things about Motion RC's shipping department; they always get orders out really fast.As for the model, it's very impressive. I already own Bancroft's 1/150th Missouri and Titanic and their 1/72nd Fletcher Class....This model is up to the quality standards of those which are exceptional and far beyond what I could ever build or have time to build. The ship has many access hatches along its length for easy installation of ballast and easy maintenance , you have access to all the electronics, motor, servo and rudder horn. You can see through the windows on the model but they are heavily tinted so you'd have to remove the dark plastic from inside the bridge and replace it with clear if you wanted to light the model yourself (Doesnt look very difficult to do that).. The funnels seem wide enough to drill out and install smoker unit tubes. Some improvements Bancroft could make would be adding lighting and an included smoke unit on these ships for this price point. One issue I see is all large Bancroft models seem to have a lack of internal bulkheads or keel beam. These models when ballasted are quite heavy and would benefit from a keel beam and a few bulkheads along the length to help spread the load over the length of the ship while not in the water. I plan on adding bulkheading to all my large Bancroft models to ensure longevity.
