These snow skids are very strong, thick, and can take one heck of a beating! They measure 9 1/4 inch long and 2 3/4 inch wide. A good sized skid. A down fall is that they are a bit heavier due to the extreme ruggedness, however it has not affected the flight performance from the weight, but it will fly a bit deferent simply because you have snow skids on and not tires. I have landed on rough, icy surfaces many times and they hold up very well. Soft fluffy snow they are ok but often the plane will sink in quickly on take off or non perfect landings. They work best on packed, firm snow. This is fairly typical of all snow skids tho. These include a spring and mounting hardware for each skid (2 skids per package) and have a long bolt to mount them onto your gear. This long bolt has 3 functions and this confused me a bit at first;1- It is the spring tension base to keep the skids pointed up when flying but allow the skid to move down under pressure, i.e. landing.2- It is the upward stop point for the skids when flying so they do not point up too far, simply set the desired upward angle you desire and tighten it down. I use roughly a 15 degree angle upward.3- It holds the snow skid on the gear. When you get this skid, play around with the mountings/springs a bit and understand how it works. Very simple really. These are intended for fixed gear planes. A fantastic snow skid for most planes 40 wings and larger. The one I use it on is a 56 span with a tricycle gear. Just make sure all of the skids are at the same upward angle otherwise it will cause the plane to roll.
