“I purchased this Snap Circuit kit to use as part of my After School STEM Program citing my students were excited and familiar with the original sets and I wanted to expand their learning knowledge to include real life Electrical Engineering experiences. My goal was to purchase 6 kits at once, but when my shipping needs couldn’t be met, I opted to purchase the one kit that would arrive on time.Geeked about sharing the new kit with my students, I was concerned some would be disappointed that there was only one of use available. So the decision was made to allow the most experienced student to try out the BRIC kit, while the original kits went to the other students. The goal of the assignment was for each student to complete a total of three related projects individually, following two projects completed with Tutor assistance. The more experienced student was allowed to bypass Tutor assistance, and after reading the instructions, dove right into the first BRIC project.I would observe that while the majority of the class flourished and moved seamlessly from one project to another using the original kits, the advanced student was experiencing a more difficult time. The lego-type pieces would severely stick to the grid base, the placement of the pieces on the grid were often times off, as were the amount of pieces needed at one particular stage or another. The grid itself felt poorly made and seemed easily breakable, causing the user to exercise caution while using it. More importantly, the pieces became extremely difficult to remove from the grid space and one another; often times requiring another tool (metal finger mail file) to free them.Needless to say, in my opinion, the BRIC system caused more problems than it sat out to solve. It forced the student to constantly retrace his/her steps in order to figure out the project in spite of unclear or flawed instructions. Instead of wearing a smile as a result of his/her efforts; frustration would give way to patience; leaving this student dismayed.I really had high hopes for this kit, but… based on this experience, I doubt if I purchase any additional ones.”
“Immediately upon opening it, wasDone opening presents, just wanted to go build it immediately.Soon as opening gifts was over & he was excused from his company, he was building the rest of the night. Learning a new aspect of “Lego” like building........ELECTRIFYING it!!!!Great teaching toy. Very engaging & easy explanatory so that he could understand, but challenged enough as he accomplished learning a new concept. We were all surprised as to how much, how creative he could b w/this set, all by himself, without adult help or instruction.........He beamed w/joy & pride as he displayed his creations!Great value for gift that engages, teaches & keeps on giving. Will by more sets to expand this 1.......”
“My 8 year old son says, Its a waste of money. It was my Christmas gift. The snap circuit brick set is expensive but the bricks are of bad quality. The electronic parts are not useful because you need to use the. along with the bricks. Elenco's products like snap circuits extreme are great, very engaging and exciting but this specific snap circuit brick set is not good. My parents don't let me return it and buy a different Christmas gift. Do not buy.”
“I choose this set so it could be an expansion of the blocks we already have.My 7 year old daughter really enjoys them and they have become her favorite toy.Great learning opportunity to talk about circuits and electric.”
