“I’ve had a few of the freewing scale edf’s my favorite was the al37 till this thing. It is the easiest edf I’ve ever flown, it sounds amazing I get 4 minutes with a 5000. Takes off of grass. O problem and the landings are like a cub. This is my favorite fixed wing I have out of the 50+ I own. Also get the afterburner light it’s totally worth it.”

“After flying the FMS Avanti 70, I wanted to try the Freewing 80 version but, since it was available only in the red and gray scheme, I did not buy it because that combination is extremely hard for me to see in a blue sky. The availability of the yellow and white scheme finally made me decide to buy the Avanti 80. I see that color combination very, very well. Shipping was very quick-it arrived home in less than a week. The jet has all the improvements mentioned for the red/grey version. All that was missing was the pilot figure but this is just cosmetic for me, so it is not important. Also, unlike the red/grey version which is fully painted, the yellow/white is largely bare white foam, with the exception of the livery. That is OK, too. Less paint means less weight-less wing loading. The jet is advertised as having a build time of one hour. Not so. It took maybe 10 minutes to fully put it together. It took longer to program the radio and control throws. There are some issues with the published control throws and CG. First, the CG in the manual is VERY nose heavy. In the RCGroups thread regarding this model, many fly it with a CG of 115 to 120 mm from the leading edge. I set mine at 115 mm and it is still a tad nose heavy but handles very well at that CG. This means that the ideal CG is way behind the CG mark on the wing. The throws are WAY, WAY too excessive as published in the manual. My low rate is 12 mm for the ailerons and 12 mm for the elevator. With these rates the Avanti will perform insanely fast rolls and rather tight circles. The jet needs absolutely no gyro. It is rock solid and tracks straight and true.As for battery, it will fly perfectly with a 4000 mAh for 3 minutes. At first sight, the jet will look rather intimidating for someone who is going from a 70 mm to an 80 mm Avanti. It's 1.20 m in wingspan and 1.3 m in length. Don't let the big size deceive you. It's easy to handle FOR AN EDF. The wing design slows down the advent of tip stalls so it can fly rather slowly during landing approach. Even though the Avanti is easy to handle for an EDF, it requires that you have prior experience with low wing fast prop planes to get you used to the speed that the Avanit can achieve. It is very fast and will "eat" large parts of the sky very quickly”
“This is my 5th Avanti, all still current, just wanted a yellow one!. Excellent fliers and highly recommended. Grass ops are much improved with latest mainwheel legs.”
