“The muffler is solidly built and effective noise suppressor on the brand new NGH GF38, but it was impossible to keep it attached for more than two flights. In the end it fell off in flight never to be found again and snapped one of the exhaust flange bolts off flush with the exhaust port. (A screw extractor will be tried to remove the bolt, but it’s RTV’d in so the engine might become a museum piece soon.) It seems there is too much mass vibrating at the end of the short exhaust header pipe for the header flange at the exhaust port to stay attached. Eventually, on the second flight, the vibration is so strong that the exhaust mounting flange pounds the RTV gasket to dust and separates from the exhaust port, even with the highest temperature rating RTV meticulously applied to make a perfect gasket. (The original paper-based gasket destroyed itself after the first 5 minutes.)The lightweight unmuffled header supplied with the engine is OK because there’s practically no mass "swinging away" at the exhaust port, so it stays attached. The sound level is still OK with the unmufflesd header because, after all, the GF38 is a four stroker.Recommendation: Do not buy.”
