“Installed this engine in a Hangar 9 Valiant, it started right up using a starter and will start by hand after it is warmed up. It runs nice and revs up good with the factory settings. I had the same problem others had with the oil blowing out of muffler seams and making a mess of the airplane. I solved this by installing a DLE 20cc replacement muffler which is an exact fit on this engine. The DLE muffler does not have seams and has longer exhaust pipe that keeps your airplane cleaner, and as a bonus it is a rectangular slim muffler instead of the fat round muffler so I don't have to chop my cowl up to fit around the muffler. I did buy the NGH pitts style muffler but can't use it as I would have to cut a hole in my firewall to make it fit, or mount engine so far forward my cowl would be to short to cover it, so the DLE muffler seems to fix 2 problems for me, and even comes with shorter mounting bolts that fit right into this engine. If not for the leaky muffler, this would be 5 stars.”

“I bought the NGH 17cc engine to go on a sport plane that was tail heavy. If nose weight is needed, put it to work. And work the NGH does! I followed the break-in directions then set it up to fly. The engine ticks over on idle reliably. It has plenty of power to smartly pull around an 8-pound sport plane and it is still breaking in a shade rich. As the directions say, close the choke, spin the engine briefly with the starter, open choke and start. It starts OK on idle too. It will run about 15 minutes, or more (haven't tried to run it dry) on a 10-oz tank. I consistently land after an 8-minute flight with about half a tank of gas left. The muffler leaks drops of oil at the seams. Most folks seal it with high-temperature silicone. I haven't bothered to do it yet, just clean up after flying. If you are looking for a reliable workhorse of an engine this is it.”

“I’ve been flying for almost forty years and recently due to the price of glow fuel decided to convert to gas in my smaller planes. This engine is a quality upgrade for this application. Can’t beat the price !”

“I have 3 NGH engines now and the GT9 and GT17 are great running engines. I took the time to break them in slow and set up the carbs. They start great with an electric starter. I use my old Sulliven starter that I have had for many years. A little finicky to hand start but possible. I did have to tighten the screws on the carburetor before it would run smooth.”

“Have not installed the engine in a plane yet. Breaking it in on a test bench, have run about 3/4 gal. Of gas through it and seems to be running very good. Will be installing it in a PT-19, 84 inch wingspan.”
