“The overall quality of these retracts is better than most out there. On October 17, I performed a maiden flight on the big hog corsair. when setting up for landing the left gear came down only part way. I cycled the gear switch a few times and the gear did finally respond. The landing approach was nominal as was the landing, however, the left wheel came off the aircraft. the left strut skidded on the runway surface (we have a geotex fabric surface) . The pin between the main gear strut and retract housing was bent. There are no spare parts available for this retract that I am aware of. It is hard to imagine that a 400+ dollar set of retracts uses a single e-clip to hold the wheel on. Yet, this is the case. I have since retrofitted the axle with a longer piece of steel and a wheel collar. Given no spare parts are available for these retracts, I attempted to straighten the pin as well as the "forks" in the pivoting fitting as they were bent as well. Through the use a vice, I was able to straighten the bent components enough to get the left retract working again. With the exception of that e-clip issue and a lack of parts availability, the overall quality of these gear is decent.”
