“I had an issue with this helicopter at first start up, the drive belt dislodged from the motor and main gear, I had to remove the 4 bolts and disconnect some wires to get the motor assembly out, I reconnected the belt, reassembled and the belt came off again. I submitted a ticket over a week ago, no response from motion rc. I called and talked to Tim in support who was able to talk me through my needed adjustments, which was the main shaft had way to much up and down travel, I just loosened the collar above the bearing and slid it down while pushing up on the main gear to take away the travel, I put everything back together now it works like it should, thanks Tim.”

“I flew 3D helis in my younger days and haven’t flown for almost 2 decades so I was looking for something less stressful and this is definitely it. I just did a maiden flight and boy was I impressed.. let’s just say I’m getting a couple more batteries and hoping they come out with a 600 size next.”

“Initial out of box thoughts. In a word, stunning. Having never owned a scale heli of this size I can see why Roban is recognized as the maker of high quality bodies. The paint, fit and finish is top notch. The paint lines are clean and the removable front cockpit fits securely. Electronics / wiring. - I noticed that all the wiring at or around the flight controller is zip tied neatly away from any moving parts such as the belt and servo arms. ( I mention this because in the marketing video there’s a wire that looks loose in front the belt and arms. ) Speaking of servo arms, I was also relieved to see that the screws / ball ends that go through the servo arms are long enough so that the locknut isn’t just hanging on by a few threads. With the bad weather and work, I unfortunately have not had a chance to fly it yet but can’t wait too when the chance comes. If this thing flies half as good as it looks, and I haven’t seen any reason why not, these are going to be hugely successful. MotionRC, what new 470 model will you be releasing is next?!”

All the screws I could reach were also tight but don’t plan to check for Locktight. Assembly – I used epoxy to glue the elevator wing to the rudder and added a small dab on the small verticals that attach on either end of that wing along with the small screws. I suppose if you didn’t want to do any gluing you could just leave the tail fins off, not glue the side windows on and just go fly. Tail rotor – So glad they chose a brushless motor. It’s just practical and helps keep costs down. Most of my heli’s are belt drive and although they’re great for 3/D performance, that’s not why I bought this heli. Sure, a brushless tail isn’t scale but nor is the blade on the right side so a non factor for me. I’m also glad that it doesn’t require any maintenance as with driven tail systems. With the bad weather and work, I unfortunately have not had a chance to fly it yet but can’t wait too when the chance comes. “I have the Flywing Huey and Bell 206 which are great gps helicopters, but this RotorScale MD-500E is a step above. The 470 size makes a big difference. It really stands out. Also, It seems to have a smoother response, especially when taking off. Lastly, the availability of spare parts is very reassuring. Overall I’m very happy with it.”

“Have had less than a week and the temperatures got up to 50, but windy. Went did my maiden and this Heli was so much fun even in the wind which it handled like a camp. Glad I made the purchase. Note never flown a helicopter before.”
