“I am an actress in NYC, and am always on the lookout for products that can help ensure my vocal health. I had always used personal steamers in the past (Vicks brand). I was honestly really hesitant to buy the MyPurmist because the cost was so high -- it seemed like an unnecessary splurge purchase, and it took me a long time to go for it.
I purchased it finally before going into a very vocally demanding show, and I'm so, so happy I did. I used my old steamer before, and the thing that annoyed / worried me most was the sheer amount of mold I constantly had to clean out of the chamber. If you guys have ever used one, you'll know what I'm talking about -- while the steam always helped, it was a huge hassle to keep it clean after use. It was also very difficult to use - you had to have an outlet, you had to have a table at the right height. No matter what, I was consistently hunched over, worried about the dirt in the chamber, and usually scalding myself with hot water when I tried to move it, etc, etc. The cord got in the way, and tbh the steam sometimes got in the way - the heat was so hot it burned my face and sometimes lightly burned my throat. I thought that was normal.
The MyPurmist was a game changer. It's portable, so not only can you hold it and keep a straight back, or be propped up with pillows before bed, but you can use it while you're on the go. That alone has saved me an incredible amount of time; I can use it backstage, in a rehearsal room. It also dries and cleans itself, so you don't have to worry about cleaning it effectively or worry about what is in the steam going into your throat. The steam doesn't get as hot as it did with my previous steamer, and you literally never have to worry about getting wet or getting burned.
I ended up getting really sick right before I purchased the MyPurmist. I steamed with the MyPurmist 3 times a day. Not only did I still have full vocal capacity onstage, but after being scoped at the ENT he informed me that my chords were in perfect condition. I truly think that the MyPurmist was instrumental in this, and saved me a ton of vocal fatigue and potential harm.
I am so grateful to have found this product. To make matters even better, I actually damaged my Purmist and was so worried about getting a replacement. The customer service team replaced it without delay, and sent me the kindest email response. I am super thankful for the entire team (including the wonderful Kimberly Smith, who helped me with my replacement!), and to MyPurmist for making such a wonderful product.
