“First reviewed one of these cameras when I got one as a replacement for a faulty HP4 3 years ago. At the time I was very impressed with the quality, so much so, I ordered another one. However, they do not last and can be very hit and miss during operation. I am now on my 4th HP5, which was sold at a reduced price last October after a previous one became became faulty, but was only given a 90 day warranty. Sadly that developed faults shortly after the 90 days were up. One was returned because of moisture ingress, and another because of triggering issues. When working they are great, but I question the build quality and longevity.”

“I have been using my Browning Recon Force Elite HP5 and spare battery tray, bought from NatureSpy, for some weeks now. There is no doubt that this is an excellent nature camera. I have been able to compare it to my Browning Recon Force Advantage cameras which I have been using since 2019. Changes that I like are its wider field of view which has the knock on effect of focussing a bit closer even at night. Both the older models and HP5 use 'low glow' LEDs which basically means near infra red - visible to us and probably other mammals but does not seem to be a problem. The advantage is that near infra red is easier for the camera lens to focus so the night video detail is pretty good, even animal fur. I'd say the HP5 has the edge here over the Advantage model. I like a spare battery tray as it is easier to load the batteries at home than in the field. Talking of batteries, rechargeable ones work really well in the HP5. I do use them in the Advantage but they don't last as long. I also like the fact that the HP5 is more compact than the Advantage and its darker green colour blends it in better with any background.
Overall it works well for my purposes of observing woodland creatures, and making the occasional video for YouTube. I have no hesitation in recommending this camera and also I have found NatureSpy a very helpful and knowledgeable supplier of trail cameras.”
