“My old handbrake worked fine but my rear pads were close to their limit so I fitted new Tora shoes with the new Tora drums and rotors on my Landcruiser 100 series. Fitted new Bosch rear brake pads too. The new brake shoes could not be adjusted enough to hold. They vibrated too at times. To fix the problem, I had to buy an aftermarket extended Dogbone Hand Brake Strut. This gave me more adjustment so I could get them to hold. Even with this part, it took a long time for the shoes to bed in enough to hold on hills. Next time I'd pay the extra and buy Toyota genuine parts for the drums and shoes. Apparently the poor handbrake is a common problem on the 100 series cruisers. The Tora parts must not be matched quite right and the poor standard Toyota design does not allow enough adjustment to take up the mismatch.”
