“Performed as hoped! I can't speak for long range accuracy. However, for my purposes, in a Ruger AR556, zerored at 50 yds and it held consistently. Immediately took it on a FL feral hog hunt. Dropped a good size hog at 60 +/- yds. It was my wife's first hunt of any kind and my first time seeing a .223 kill medium size game first hand. She was nervous that she would miss or "let one get away." When she spotted the hog, it turned to run. First shot low behind the elbow, straight through the vitals. Hog stopped, started to step forward, rocked back, so she rushed a second shot, intending to keep shooting till the hog dropped. Hog rocked back and hit the ground and was out in about 60 seconds.
The second shot was of not necessary; it was a gut shot.
However, both shots were complete pass-throughs. Entry holes approximately 5/8"; exits 3/4" - 1". No fragmentation other that one small chip of plastic tip debris.
I've read reams of opinions and research on the efficacy of .223 for hunting hogs and whitetails. Out of my rifles, the AR was the only option for my very petite wife. I was concerned about premature bullet fragmentation, inadequate expansion, or cup/core separation from most traditional .223 hunting bullets. I'm completely satisfied with Federal 223 P223TC1 55 Grain Trophy Copper Ballistic Tip Lead-Free for intended distances and proper shot placement.”
