“I’ve purchased PPU 158 grain FPJ & SJHP both and I’ve never had a FTF or hard extraction. They burn no dirtier than Winchester White Box , and they shoot just as good. I have noticed jacket separation after impact. Not a big deal really, infact in a low speed bullet it can help with tissue damage. I prefer the FPJ for hunting up to deer size animals, and the SJHP for smaller game and personal protection. Both seem to be very accurate and consistent, the brass is great for reloading too. I give the PPU 5 stars for value because of the lower price, but for performance a quality only 4 stars, let’s face it, they’re not top quality like a partition bullet or a hornady. But you definitely get a good bullet for the price. One more thing I might add, with PPU they always post FPS higher than it actually is, I haven’t Chronographed it’s actual speed but it doesn’t feel any hotter than any other 357 Magnum rounds I’ve fired. In fact what I do is multiple they’re posted FPS by 80 to 85 percent to get a better accurate FPS someday I’ll test my theory with a Chronograph. I noticed a question asked by another potential buyer asking what length barrel used in PPU’s testing, I found that information on PPU’s website, if I remember correctly rifle barrel length was 24” revolver ammo was 10” (perhaps the reason for the fast velocity listed) and for semi-auto’s I think they used 5.5” barrels.”
“My 357 Smith & Wesson love these rounds. If you want to have some fun,put a round in some watermelons or cans of beans. The muzzle energy and feet per second is pretty impressive. The hollow point with SEMI jacket is a great combination”
“I have a 357 revolver and a lever action rifle in 357, both of which can get "hungry" at times and can be expensive to feed. I rely on the revolver as a home defense weapon so I do not want to use lower cost, lower recoil 38 special ammo for practice. As a defense weapon I have some concerns about over-penetration with 357 in FMJ or solid soft points so hollow points are desirable. This PPU ammo seems to me to be very consistent and completely reliable at a very nice price. It is also clean burning. I purchased these based on price but they will be my regular load from now on.”
