“I upgraded from a budget 40 lb. $375 hybrid to a Trek Domane al5gen4 this year. At late middle age, 5'11 and 260 lbs, I think I made a great choice. Since March I have put over 3000 miles on it. I am 235 lbs now. When the Trek guys mentioned chamois and bibs i had no idea what they were talking about at first. Eventually I bought a $20 pair of liner shorts. Made a huge difference. But after two hours the chamois would lose its shape and feel like I shoved junk mail or down my shorts. The chafing sucked. So I bought a 40 dollar pair and acquire 3 hours, if it wasn't humid. But I am a slow rider. If I go 60 miles, I am in the saddle 4-5 hours. So I risk the "cardboard effect" with a budget liner. That chafing defeats the purpose, don't it? Out of frustration I began reading Reddit posts about bibs and chamois-- and came away with the wisdom that the pad is one place you don't want to cut corners. Spend the money. And look for Density. Redditors highly rated Pactimo Summit Stratos 12 Hour Bibs. One endurance rider posted a video of one of his adventures claiming that even after 10 hours in the saddle that the stratos chamois was still maintaining its shape and firmness. So I bought an XXL pair for $164 and there has been no looking back. So far 4 rides around 60 miles, up to 5 hours in the sadlle, and quite frankly, the bibs and pad have held up great and seem ready for much longer rides. Now, these are my first full bibs-- so I can't offer comparison/contrast to other mid-rangers (price wise). But, wow, do they crush the budget liners into oblivion. No effing chafing ever again. I think this breakthrough in cycling wisdom surpasses opting to bring a stack of fig newtons onboard... well, maybe not.”

“The summit stratos 12hrs sbibs has seam down the middle of the chamois that needs to be reconsider. It irritates me after 2hrs on the bike. The seam pressing against my skin was uncomfortable.”

“I ordered the "12-hour" bibs recently and wore them for a few long trainer rides over the last few weeks. I love them! The chamois is very comfortable when sitting on my bike for for 2.5hr+ rides. They also did a great job of regulating my temperature. I'm 6'2" ~175 lbs with 33.4" inseam and ordered a Large Long and they fit great.”
