“Works ok but sides need to be higher as chicks easily flick bedding out. Heat lamp works ok but needs to be better integrated/attached to the cage. Better off using a large plastic tote with a piece of steel mesh on top. Drinking container needs a hanging loop as it is too small and easily knocked over.”
“I bought a “Pet One Your First Chicken Kit” today at Gregory Hills, and I am very happy with it. First of all, I think it is very good value for money considering what you get (the ceramic lamp alone is quite expensive).
I was surprised by the previous 2-star review, because my lamp gets very hot. It is exactly the same model as the one professionals use in the hatchery where we bought our chicks. With the ceramic lamp, you can also choose the height at which you place it (I use a bit of wire for this), which makes it easy to adjust and judge the perfect height to provide the right amount of heat for the chicks.
The cage is large—about 80 cm wide—well made, and easy to open thanks to the trapdoor at the top.
On top of that, I would like to mention the friendliness of the staff at the Gregory Hills store on that Sunday, 13th December 2025. They were smiling and very helpful in assisting me with my purchases, even while I was there with my two young children who wanted to see everything (cats, fish, Santa, etc. ).
I can only recommend both the store and this “chick starter kit.” Our cute little chicks are currently enjoying their new home (I wish I could share a photo with you, it’s soooo cute!)”
“I'm sorry but this was a complete waste of money. The heat lamp isn't hot enough to keep chick's warm. The cage was filthy even though it was new. And for 174 dollars I would've expected better. I can't even use this for my hatchings as it's not warm enough. Very disappointing.”
