Aprilaire Automatic Humidifier Reviews

Michigan, USOur house gets so dry during the winter months and this was a HUGE success in our home! We tied this unit in to our supply air and used a *hot water* line to feed the unit with water and WOW; our house stays at the perfect humidity! Would highly recommend!!

After reading before choosing this model, I noted on the instructions the unit could be installed on the supply side or alternatively on the return side. The instructions indicated the auto humidistat needed to be 6” above the unit when both are mounted in the return plenum. It having that clearance I called the Alrilaire tech rep and he cleared my question. However, he recommended not using the 700 because it was designed to be mounted in the supply side. Although the unit could be mounted on the return, it would loose ~ 50% efficiency. Great discussion, rep was professional, friendly, and informative. He recommended going with the 600 which works well on the return side because it is ducted into the supply plenum. So I returned the 700 and ordered the 600, as advised. The $$ hasn’t been credited yet like most returns because they will check out the unit for damage, missing parts, etc.So, to be on the safe side I took copious pice of the unit, all parts, how packed, outside shipping box (the manufacturer’s box) in case there are any $$ deduction due to missing/damaged issues.I’ll leave a review on the 600, which is sitting on my kitchen floor unopened because I downloaded the instructions earlier after talking g with the rep to get a head start. The 600’s instructions require copper tubing for the hot water supply line but the ‘installation parts kit’ which came with the unit at an additional cost came with plastic tubing, which isn’t recommended for hot water. The 600 requires hot water supply. Don’t understand why the included kit had plastic not Cu. This would add $20 for a coil of Cu tubing and I wouldn’t need the plastic. So, another return (2nd) this time I didn’t even open the box to not risk loosing $$ on the return.Reordered the 600 w/o the installation kit because after pricing the included kit, plus needing to buy the Cu coil anyway, saved ~$90 all told.Very pleased with the build quality of the 700 and the support from their tech. I’ll update this on the return $$ as I’m in for ~ $800 so far w/ two pending returns. plumbingsupplyandmore always treats us fairly, and should for the high prime annual fees. I shopped around and found plumbingsupplyandmore the best value. One more thing - the top of the box clearly states ‘must be installed by experienced HVAC contractor or warranty is voided’ so, I’m good there. I don’t have confidence in an outside installation tech determining the 700 would loose 50% if mounted on the return when the instructions clearly stated it could be installed on the return with nothing said about the 50% loss in efficiency. Just would have follow the paperwork and installed as instructed.

Works better than my old model 460. Keeps house more moist. Like that it test humidity every couple of hours. Starts humidifier and furnace fan even if heat is not needed. Works better on supply side instead of return as other models. The outdoor temperature sensor requires house thermostat upgrade.
