I got this to replace an older Cash Acme pressure regulator that I had used for a while to reduce the pressure in a water line. The old one had served me well, but was worn out, and had been discontinued so a rebuild kit was no longer available. Compared to my old valve, this new one is not as precise, it lets the pressure fluctuate more than the old one did. The old valve held to within a couple PSI regardless of input pressure (usually fluctuated between 30-50PSI). However, I don't have anything on the line that requires exact precision, I just wanted the pressure lowered and it works fine for that. As an added bonus, the rebuild kit for this one is a cartridge that you can replace in a minute or two which contains all wear parts, so it should be rebuildable almost forever. My old valve had a seat pressed into the body which required special tools/skills to replace when it wore out (about every other rebuild) so service is easier. When changing the cartridge, be SURE you have the spring positioned correctly, or you will get almost no flow coming out the regulator. The spring is easy to 'tip' as you install it, so that it does not meter properly. Took me 3 tries to get it right the first time, but now that I found a little dab of grease will hold it in place during assembly, I shouldn't have that problem. The valve appears well made, and is easily and quickly rebuildable without removing the valve housing from the pipes, but is what I consider to be average at best for precision as far as pressure regulation goes. One last comment, the union joint can go on either the inlet or outlet of the valve, and you can get a second union, and have one at both ends if you want (or you can order the double union joint).
