“First, make sure you have a C-wire on your existing thermostat, or know how to wire one (not hard). Key piece of info- if you have split systems (AC & Heat) *the C-wire must come from the AC*. Luckily I saw that footnote in the instructions.Once I had it wired, setup was straightforward except the WIFI WOULDN'T CONNECT. This is apparently a common issue with Honeywell thermostats (Google it) they have trouble connecting to some routers for no apparent reason. Honeywell support was extremely disappointing, they wash their hands of it and tell you to contact the router manufacturer. (ASUS RT-AC88U)After trying dozens of times (entering the password is a PITA each time!) I had to disable an advanced wireless setting in my router called "AIRTIME FAIRNESS". This should not be an issue for a modern device.Disabling AF can slow down other devices on your router, so at some point I will try to turn it back on and see if the thermostat stays connected. The main reason I got this thermostat was for the dehumidify feature, which (as another reviewer mentioned) is great for husband/wife thermostat wars. It allows the AC to come on below the temperature set point if the humidity is still high. So your spouse can set it for 75, but it can run down to say 72 if it's above 60% humidity (both adjustable). Good compromise. The remote wifi control is icing on the cake...”
“Thermostat install / setup requires some knowledge on HVAC or educate yourself with several installation / setup /operation videos on YouTube or queries on the internet for technical definitions / questions. Instructions with box are too basic. to install correctly. Installed an exterior Honeywell Temperature / Humidity Sensor at my Heat Pump control area outside with the existing thermostat wire. Now have better control of low set point for Aux Heat kicking on and set it so its not so quick to jump to Aux heat when bumping up the heat 1 or 2 degrees. I like the Auto feature to set a range for automatically switching between heating and cooling. On certain days I will still manually tweak the the temperature setting knowing its trend for the day to save energy (easy to do). And on the wall I have it set to just tap the thermostat face to see the settings. The remote phone interface is excellent and easy to use. My local HVAC company quoted me $1000.00 for the Thermostat and Temperature Sensor / Humidity install and I did it for $120.00 Tax included. Thermostat was cheaper through AMZN warehouse deals just like new.”
“I have had this thermostat for about 6 months. It worked well in the beginning and still does what it should. However, it will reset the screen every 5 minutes or so. It lights up and resets for no reason other than the status reads waiting for update. There is no way to update this. I searched all over the manual, honeywell website, and google. I have found nothing on how to update or what it actually needs to get back on track. It still cools and heats according to schedule but very annoying that the screej resets every 5 minutes next to our TV. Distracting and I can imagine it uses energy to reset so often that shouldn't be needed.”
