1-1/2" Air Scoop, Cast Iron Reviews

4.8 Rating 78 Reviews
These air vents tend to need replacement every few years as they gum up and leak (probably caused by the hard water we have up here in the mountains of CO). Easy fix - turn off the water supply to the boiler, depressurize the system just to 0 PSI via the relief valve, unscrew the old Taco air vent and replace with the new one prepped with some teflon tape. Turn back on the supply water and you're good to go (and didn't have to pay the heater/plumber service company several hundred dollars).

These vents replace some cheap brass vents. I did not have any problems with leaking after I installed them and they vented air out of the system right away.Plumbing Supply completed the order quickly and shipped them to me right away.

I install quite a number of these vents. They perform rather well, but most of them start leaking after a year or two. I have tried most competitive products and haven't found anything better. They are inexpensive, so it is best to buy and extra one and have a spare.

Easy-Peasey to swap out my crusty calcified hi-hats for these new ones and these work perfectly. I leave the caps unscrewed slightly all the time to let them vent automatically. (Some people temporarily open them but generally keep them closed.). They release any air in the pipes and do not leak any water, after the air has been puged. I had replaced very similar ones that were about >10 years old and had a calcium build up in and around the vent valve. The build up was causing then to drizzle out water continuously. After installing a couple new ones, I unscrewed the caps on the old ones and soaked the whole things in a container of white vinegar for a couple weeks. The old ones are nearly like new again. I tested one of the cleaned up older ones and it has been working perfectly for a couple weeks now. I now have a couple spares.
