Not too difficult to install.

The control head of the valve is made to be easily replaced, without disturbing the valve body itself.

This part was out of stock at the big blue store and the big orange store with no hint of a delivery date in the near future. With no heat in one zone of the house waiting wasn't an option. I checked here on a lark and got the part overnight. Easy installation and now the heats on.

So easy to install. There are plenty of online help videos too. Still, easy.

This is easy to replace – the hydronic system remains sealed, so just remove the 3 wires, and rotate CW hard. Install the new one reverse way. The one removed was only about 5 years old, the other 3 zone valves are still original at 25 yrs. The one that failed had extruded the thermal wax, but did not burn out the heater. It was also difficult to operate manually, so here’s hoping it didn’t fail prematurely due to some problem in the valve itself. With large pump pliers I ‘worked’ the valve operator a few times. It moved easy enough, and was smooth. The replacement works, but I think it still requires excessive force to rotate the actuator into position. So I still wonder how long this one might last.

Pay for the more expensive one, and save yourself time.
