Overall I do like the palette but there are some areas where improvements could be made. I definitely don't regret the purchase but you do need to pull from another palette for a complete look. I bought this on a whim and this palette is much bigger than I anticipated. The packaging is well made, the pan sizes are huge and it includes a quality mirror. The formula is a buildable and some shades aren't as true to color upon first application but they do build nicely. I personally don't mind a buildable formula that blends nicely. I find the orange (top right) and the true red shades go on much lighter than they appear in the pan and never reach full opacity. The orange applies as more of a peachy coral than a true orange. It is an absolutely beautiful color but definitely not true to what it looks like in the pan. The greens are gorgeous and are true to color in pan upon building. I would say the formula is more of satin matte and the true shimmers are a beautiful, wearable shimmer. I find the most shine from the shimmers by using my finger, spraying a brush after picking it up or applying a glitter glue/primer to the lid prior to application. I appreciate that The Star Child New Moon Rising palette has depth with rich deep satin mattes but it is definitely missing the lighter end of the spectrum to round out the palette. A perfect palette for me includes everything I need for a complete eye look so that I don't have to dip into another palette or use a separate product to achieve a look. Even though it doesn't have the lighter shades in the palette, I have been able to achieve some very beautiful eye looks. The Mercury Retrograde palette is the complete opposite. It lacks depth and is very shimmer heavy. The depth the palette does have are in the form of shimmers. I would say this is more of a companion palette. I can use this palette for the lighter shades I'm missing in the Star Child New Moon Rising but I cannot use the depth that is in New Moon Rising as a companion to the Mercury Retrograde. The deep shades that are included in New Moon Rising do not compliment the color story of Mercury Retrograde so you will need to pull from another palette or single shadows to have a complete look.
