Layover Shorts 19" - Black Black / 30 Reviews

3.7 Rating 3 Reviews
These are comfy and the drawstring waist with zip fly is a nice combo for fit. Two things; I have the black and the camo. They attract lint like crazy. Despite the nice design, that could be a deal breaker if you have animals. (Included pic is fresh from wash before room exposure,) Also, pockets are well thought out but they’d be better with an additional smaller zip pocket up front for AirPods, etc. Considering they were designed for travel, that’s a pretty huge omission. Yes, the butt phone pocket is a good detail, but for travel why would they not add an additional up front pocket…they’d have a little more flavor, too, IMO.

these shorts are extremely well made. the cut is comfortable and the sizing is accurate. the features are very convenient. but there are some minor negative aspects: the fabric is a little stiff - that could change over time. the fly and tie closure is slightly inconvenient - it loosens under exertion and if you're tying it tight, it can make the fit in front oddly baggy. the phone pocket is great, but i wish it were on the other side, maybe because i'm left-handed. i will probably look at other style shorts next, but i'm impressed with Roark quality.

Roark makes great shorts — the fit, colors, and purpose just work. For the Layover 2.0 shorts I found myself struggling a little bit with the drawstring and zipper pockets. The drawstring can make sense with shorts (like board shorts or trunks) but in conjunction with a zipper, it's a tad wonky — after each bathroom break I would sometimes tie it up at the top and forget about the zipper — not used to a zipper being in that equation. For the zipper pockets, my brain is not used to having to think about 'to zip or not to zip' but that's kind of a small issue so I just deal with it. Overall pretty good shorts from Roark but perhaps a little over engineered.
