“Having 5 or 6 pairs of shorts by Roark Run Amok, all sized Large. I was surprised that this size L fit closer around my legs. It could be the more “versatile” design of this short instead of a true running design keeps it slimmer. But all in all a good short. Smart pockets and nice material.”

“The best shorts going. Built well with some added features like side pocket, integrated compression shorts and drawstring so I wouldn’t consider it a lightweight short.
Regarding sizing, I had to exchange the size L for a M. I’d say they run a bit large. I’m 183 lbs, stocky, with a 32” waist in most brands and generally prefer a more fitted look. M fits great and plenty of stretch if you’re in between sizes like me. The built in compression short is comfortably snug while the exterior part of the shorts looks good without a bunch of extra, baggy material.
