Of the first three books I bought from your shop (Wild Atlantic Women, Finding Hildasay, and I Am An Island) the last one had the deepest effect on me. Here was a woman with no support system after her husband left her, and yet she struggled on against the bias and prejudice of some of the islanders, including some disturbing instances of cruelty and even brutality. As a woman I found the sheep sale to be particularly upsetting. I know this area as my great grandmother was from Mull and we have spent a great deal of time over several years in the area. I felt ashamed at how some of the islanders abused the privilege of right to roam and Scottish hospitality. Tamsin Calidas is courageous, self reliant (even with debilitating injuries) and a woman committed to holding on to her croft. An incredible narrative and highly recommended.
