If I lived in the areas thevpaths take and I could walk these walks this would be an interesting guide. As it is, I don't know the geography or the regions and the author is no Edwatd Thomas or Robert Macfarlane. He is tremendously sincere and heart warming in his praise of the now extinct walking rural postman/woman. He obviously had a wonderful time researching the stories, but I did want to know more about the people and see more of them, and less about "turning right here and going there" which read more like a walking circuit for weekend readers of the Daily Telegraph. This book was not worth £20 plus for me, and I won't read it over and over again, as I do with all Macfarlane and Rabane and Newby. A good book if you live in the North and know the area, and can get it from your local library.
