The pillow out of the box was already in the protective pillow case and did not have an odor at all. Maybe a slight one, if you smoosh your nose close enough. Anyway, I have gone through about 6 pillows looking for one that works. The center of the pillow cradles your head perfectly and the indentations on the side are super comfy for your arm. I'm a side sleeper so those indents on the side were game changers. It sleeps cool. At least for me. I did cover it in a regular cotton pillow case as well though. My personal experience has been awesome but that's just me. I would (and have already) recommend this to anyone who gets neck or shoulder aches in the mornings.”
