Perfect wool tie. Pricey obviously but the quality and design are good.

This knit tie feels much stronger compared to my other (non- Fort Belvedere) ones. The brown-blue combination is subdued and I wear with a 3-piece suit and a jumper with jeans.

I've purchased quite a few things from the good folks at FB. two things to say in general. 1) The quality is very high - the products are all well made using high quality raw materials and the skill of the artisans is quite evident. 2) This can be equally important - quality can be great but you have to vibe with the design aesthetic. By and large, the design aesthetic fits very well with my interests and tastes. This particular tie is a good example. I find standard silk ties available at malls to be either over the top and showy or not particularly good quality. They are also boring in a shallow kind of way - beyond the initial thrall of some new interesting pattern, there is nothing. Over time, I have found myself gravitating to more interesting material like madder and wool bourette and knit ties. Knit ties are particularly interesting. They usually forego pattern for texture. I find them to be particularly appealing during the colder months of the year with tweeds and flannels. It has been hard to find good knit ties. The texture on many I see can be lacking. These, on the other hand, are lovely - they have a crunchy hand and form an elegant knot (which I am sure will only improve with age as the fibres relax - which incidentally is another aspect I find very appealing - a sort of wabi sabi appeal). Second, the problem of a lack of texture in knit ties I've seen elsewhere is compounded by having only one flat colour. Knit ties are sufficiently textured that adding pattern would just make it too busy and showy, in my opinion. However, a single color, especially without texture, is someting I find a little flat. These strike a wonderful balance for me in the way they combine two related but different colours - the texture still carries the day but the two tones add interest and make it easy to combine with other accents. This specific tie, for example, has a very pleasing combination of slightly muted blue and brown. That combination itself is an easy one to pull off but also has vast variety to explore. (In another life, I paint a lot - and one of the most interesting color axes to play in is the blue-brown axis - various combinations of ultramarine blue and burnt sienna alone provide a lot of visually interesting things to explore). The textured, flecky look pairs particularly well with Donegal fabrics but it will work with many things in the tweed and flannel families. I will also add that items were carefully packed, shipped promptly in very stylish and useful boxes.

I am very happy with this tie. I had previously given up on FB ties. The three-fold ties are of poor quality. I have bought three, and the finishing threads on all of them came undone after a couple of wears with normal handling. The knit tie, on the other hand, is actually knit shut, so it's a hardy tie. The blue and brown contrast is quite subtle from a distance, so you can wear it with both your blue and brown outfits. The knot it forms is also very good. Stay away from the three-folds, but go for the silk knits for sure.

While I'm happy to hear about your experience with the knit ties, I do want to know more about what happened to your three-fold ties. Do you mind contacting us so we can assist you with that? You may email us at contact@gentlemansgazette.com or call us at +1 651-964-2222 :)

My three Fort Belvedere silk knit ties are easily my best clothing purchases of the past twelve months. I'm always on the lookout for clothes, shoes and accessories that are distinctive, great quality, and have a timeless style -- and my silk knit ties from Fort Belvedere are all that and more. Most knit ties feel a little less formal, but they often also have a very flat, inexpensive feeling. And they often all look the same: seen one, seen 'em all. The Fort Belvedere ties are unique. They're still informal but much more dapper that the traditional preppy knit ties we all know already. Best about your knit ties are the lovely, subtle palette of colors. A colleague saw one yesterday and said "classy," and this person NEVER wears a tie!

Truly a wonderful fabric. I enjoy wearing knit ties, and I have several that cost 2-3 times as much which look cheap next to the Fort Belvedere. A rich, unique, and complex fabric.
