“Other than the fancy box, there is nothing special about this tie to justify the exorbitant price, especially seeing it is made with inexpensive Vietnamese labour. That foreign labour does mean you will be assessed a 20% federal import duty, in addition to GST/PST, if you are buying this tie from Canada. And to top it off, you will be subjected to a $60 charge from Fed-Ex for their border broker "services". With all this plus US exchange, expect to pay twice the online price.”

Sorry to hear that you feel there is nothing fancy about this bow tie. Frankly, we are proud of this bow tie. 1. It is very difficult to find single-end bow ties in general, and we were the first to offer them in faille silk 2. The silk we use is the most expensive faille money can buy and is made in Italy. Even if we imported that silk to Canada, it would still require import duties. 3. We are a US-based company, and just like you we are not fans of customs and duties. However, there is really nothing we can do about that. As a small business, we cannot monitor the exact cost for every country and communicate that with customers upfront, especially since countries change the way they work on things. That being said, we have been looking into options that allow to pay for customs upfront, so there are no surprises, but it is more difficult to implement than most people think. 4. We tested manufacturing facilities in Germany, England, Italy, the US and Vietnam and the quality and consistency was the best in Vietnam. Yes, it is also less expensive to produce there, but the people there are paid a fair wage and treated well, according to the certificates that were presented to us. Also, the quality of the work is top notch. At the end of the day, there is no company that I am aware of that produces single end faille bow ties in Canada. I hope you still enjoy wearing it.
